One day ahead of taking the field in the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s College World Series, Hart graduate Jessica Shults and Valencia graduate picked up All-American First Team honors.

The junior Shults was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team on Wednesday after being named to the second team in 2010 and 2011.

Shults hit 19 home runs this season and has 53 in her Oklahoma career, according to SoonerSports.com.

Shults and Oklahoma will play Thursday against South Florida at 10 a.m. on ESPN2.

Shipman becomes the 12th player in Tennessee history to be named an All American.

The former Viking was among the national leaders in RBIs with 63 and totaled 33 RBIs in SEC contests to lead the conference, according to utladyvols.com.

For more on Shults, Shipman and the three other local athletes participating in the Women’s College World Series this week (Valencia's Bethany Kemp, Canyon's Brittany Williams and Hart's Melissa Brown), see Thursday’s Signal.

Tennessee is scheduled to begin play in the College World Series Thursday.
