Industry professionals gathered last Thursday for the monthly commercial real estate market forum at the IHOP Restaurant in Stevenson Ranch.

Sponsored by the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, three local speakers addressed myriad topics before investors, brokers, agents, lenders and service providers.

Speaking about annexations and their economic impact on Santa Clarita, Realtor and City Councilman Bob Kellar also reviewed highlights of his recent trip to Washington, D.C., sponsored by KHTS, with a group of local business and civic leaders.

Kellar, owner of Kellar-Davis real estate firm, also spoke about the proposed high speed rail, Cemex mine, Whittaker-Bermite and an update on Disney's Golden Oak movie ranch.

Avoiding trouble in commercial and residential real estate, and the legal issues surrounding transactions, was covered by local attorney Carl Kanowsky of Kanowsky and Associates.

Bob Khalsa, chairman of SRAR's commercial committee and president of United American Realty, explained how to evaluate the purchase of condos, townhomes and single-family homes for investment purposes, as well as understanding a commercial lease.

The meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month.
