Real Life Church Lead Pastor Rusty George, Audrene McMahon, Josh Kimball and Student Ministry Pastor Steve Meyers celebrate $1,500 college scholarships.

Two students from Real Life Church recently picked up college scholarships after winning an essay contest organized by the Valencia church.

The two winners received scholarships to the college of their choice in the amount of $1,500 from the Santa Clarita Valley Auto Dealers Association.

The two scholarship winners are Josh Kimball, of Canyon Country, and Audrene McMahon, of Stevenson Ranch.

The SCV Auto Dealers Association wanted to reward Santa Clarita Valley students with character, so the Student Ministry team at Real Life Church looked to its own student members for applicants. Out of the 44 graduating seniors from Real Life Church, several students applied for the scholarships and wrote essays.

Kimball has attended Real Life Church since it began in 2000, and has spent many years volunteering his time in the Children's Ministry and Production departments. McMahon has attended Real Life Church since 2009, and has been an active volunteer in both the Children's Ministry and the Junior High Ministry at the Valencia church.

"Both students have shown exceptional qualities in leadership and will represent our church and community well in their futures," Student Ministry Pastor Steve Meyers said. Kimball will attend Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego in the fall, and McMahon will attend Westmont College in Santa Barbara.

Real Life Church is a nondenominational church planted by Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch. The Student Ministry department hosts a service especially for high school through college age, called GENERATE, which meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Real Life Church, 23841 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia.
