Several local sheriff's deputies scoured a Newhall neighborhood Thursday morning in search of a suspected car thief.

At about 8:30 a.m., at least half a dozen deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a stolen car spotted in the area of 6th and Arch streets, east of the Railroad Avenue near the railway tracks.

"It looks like we lost him," Lt. Mark Hershey said shortly after 9 a.m. following a search of the neighborhood for the suspect.
