College of the Canyons sophomore Chris Low won the California Community College Athletic Association state championship in the 800-meter run on Saturday at Cerritos College.
Low's time of 1 minute, 49.16 seconds is a personal record, and it marks the second year in a row he's won a state title in the 800.
The Canyon High graduate's time from Saturday is just a tenth of a second off the Santa Clarita Valley record, which is 1:49.06 and was set by Hart High graduate Chuck Kirkby in 1955 while he competed for Mt. San Antonio College.
Low will attend Long Beach State next season.
