World-renowned opera, theater and film director Peter Sellars will be the 2012 recipient of the California Institute of the Arts' honorary doctor of arts degree during the Friday commencement ceremony at the Valencia art school.

Sellars will also reflect on his life and art as part of his speech to the CalArts class of 2012. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the campus, 24700 McBean Parkway in Valencia.
