Two people injured in a traffic collision on Sierra Highway late Tuesday afternoon were not as seriously hurt as first feared, a local sheriff's deputy said Wednesday.

Once medical staff had a chance to examine victims of the two-car collision on Sierra Highway in front of Eternal Valley Memorial Park cemetery, they determined two if the people believed critically hurt had not suffered injuries considered life-threatening, said Traffic Section Deputy Mike Shapiro of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Despite early reports there were four people injured, the only ones hurt in the crash were the drivers of each vehicle - a woman driving a white pickup truck and a man driving a Saturn.

"The woman suffered a broken ankle and abrasions," Shapiro said. "The man suffered a laceration to his leg and abrasions to his arm."

An investigation into the crash was ongoing.
