CIF softball: Cardinals win big in wild card

SCCS moves on to play No. 1 seed in first round Thursday

Santa Clarita Christian softball defeated Bethel Christian of Riverside 18-0 on Tuesday at Canyon Country Little League in the wild-card round of the CIF-Southern Section Division VII playoffs.

The Cardinals’ reward is a road contest against No. 1-seeded Pomona Catholic on Thursday on the road.

Heather McCain pitched seven innings for SCCS, striking out 14 batters while allowing just one hit.

The Cardinals (6-11), who finished in third place in the Coastal League, scored twice in the first inning, five times in the second, twice more in the third, seven times in the fifth and twice more in the sixth.

McCain’s two-run single keyed the offense in the second inning. She went 4-for-4 in the game with three RBIs.

Audrey Robinson’s two-run double was the big hit in the fourth. Robinson was 2-for-5 in the game.

Cardinal Allie Acosta was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Kimber Curry was 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

Bethel Christian finishes its season at 8-11.
