Student organizes donation drive

The third-grade classroom at James Foster Elementary School stands with their 15 bags of donations to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.

I was doing a school project about the Santa Clarita Valley, and I chose the Food Pantry. I got to interview Belinda Crawford, the director of the pantry, and she gave me a tour.

She told me that there are many low-income families in Santa Clarita that need food and hygiene products. The Food Pantry serves about 60 families a day, and everything they give out is from donations.

They need people to donate as much as possible, but really need it most in the summer.

After finishing my project, I decided to have a food drive in my classroom. All my friends have been very excited to help.

I have about 15 full bags to bring to the SCV Food Pantry. It made me feel so happy when I saw how many bags were being brought in.

I’m so excited to bring in all of the donations, and I think everyone there is going to be very pleased with what our class has done.

I hope that whoever reads this gets inspired and donates, especially in summer, which is very soon.

Thank you to everybody in Mrs. Smith’s class.

Joshua Chavez, 8, is in third grade at James Foster Elementary School.
