The highest concentration of Foothill League athletes may have been at the CIF-Southern Section Division II prelims on Saturday, but the Division I and III schools gave a good account of themselves as well.

Valencia and West Ranch competed at the Division I prelims at Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo, while Hart competed at the Division III prelims at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa.

Valencia’s Clint Gingrich qualified for the Division I finals in three different events, with top-nine times and marks in the 400-meter race (50.53 seconds), the long jump (21 feet, 10 1/2 inches) and as part of the 4x100 relay team with James Berkley, Nick Jones and Michael Kojin (42.49 seconds).

The top nine marks qualify for the CIF finals in the field events, while on the track, the heat winners automatically qualify for the finals, along with the next best times until nine total finalists are accumulated.

Also for Valencia, Chanel Rogers qualified for the 400 finals with a time of 57.37 seconds.

West Ranch’s Ashley Welker, Nick Bultman and Xiomara Perkins were each finalists in two events. Bultman threw a personal record of 55-10 in the shot put and also threw 156-7 in the discus, while Welker won her 800 heat in 2:14 and joined Perkins, Amy Falahat and Lauren Ross on the finalist 4x400 team (3:57.27).

Perkins also qualified for the 400 finals in 58.05 seconds.

For Hart, Austin O’Neil and Sam Peckham both qualified for the finals in the 1,600 and 3,200. O’Neil ran the 1,600 in 4:17.4, while Peckham came in at 4:18.2.

Tim White went 21-3 to qualify for the long jump finals, and he cleared 6-3 to reach the high jump finals as well. Teammates Gabe Robinson and Ryan Zielinski also cleared 6-3 to qualify for the finals.
