Drivers can expect a California Highway Patrol-conducted sobriety checkpoint from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday in an unincorporated area of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Motorists approaching a checkpoint site with signs will be diverted into a special lane for a quick explanation of the checkpoint's purpose, a CHP news release said.

The DUI checkpoint is designed to create awareness among the motoring public and deter people from driving under the influence, and to apprehend drivers under the influence who fail to heed warnings.
