Santa Clarita employers are asked to rally their employees and compete in the 9th annual Bike to Work Day challenge on May 17.

The friendly competition throughout the city is meant to encourage employees to get out of their cars during Bike to Work Week, which starts Monday and ends May 18.

Businesses will be able to compete in three categories based on the number of employees they have, and participants will be able to enjoy free refreshments, giveaways and cycling information at four pit stops throughout the city.

Pit stops will be at City Hall; the corner of Valencia Boulevard and Bouquet Canyon Road; South Fork Trail access at the corner of Newhall and 16th Street in Newhall; and Santa Clara River Trail access at the corner of Camp Plenty Road and Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

Participants will be entered into a prize raffle for KHS bicycles, cycling gear, gift certificates and movie tickets.

Interested businesses should designate a "lead rider" to be responsible for registering the business for the challenge and submitting a list of bicyclists to event coordinator Laura Jardine at 661-255-4376 or ljardine@santa-clarita.com.
