SCV schools named to state Honor Roll

Nearly 20 Santa Clarita Valley schools from five school districts have been selected to the 2011 Honor Roll by the California Business for Education Excellence, the organization announced today.

Schools receiving the academic award have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement and improvement in achievement levels over time. The Honor Roll list grew from 1,315 California schools in 2010 to the current 1,614 for 2011.

Newhall School District counts the most schools to receive the award with nine elementary schools named to the Honor Roll.

Meadows, McGrath, Old Orchard, Oak Hills, Pico Canyon, Peachland, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia Valley and Wiley Canyon elementary schools made the statewide list of outstanding schools.

From the Saugus Union School District, Cedarcreek, Bridgeport, Helmers, Mountainview and Tesoro del Valle elementary schools were selected, while Sulphur Springs School District counts Golden Oak Community School on this year's Honor Roll.

Within the William S. Hart Union High School District, Academy of the Canyons, Rio Norte Junior High School, Valencia High School and West Ranch High School were recognized.
