The Hart boys tennis team fell to Glendale 11-7 on Tuesday in a CIF-Southern Section Division II wild-card match at Glendale High School.

The Indians stacked their doubles lineup to counteract Glendale’s strength, according to Hart head coach Chris Mansfield, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

“I think we did really well in doubles,” Mansfield said. “But their singles were just a little bit better than us.”

The Hart No. 1 doubles team of Tommy LaBat and Rohan Shankar swept 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, while the team of Brandon Dam and Cody Berlioz won two sets 6-4, 6-3. The other doubles team of Thomas Rakke and Michael Park won one set 6-2.

On the singles side, Elliot Miller won Hart’s only set 6-3 over Glendale’s No. 3.

Glendale will now meet the Division II No. 1 overall seed Palm Desert in today’s first round.

The Indians finished 10-10 overall this season and tied for third in the Foothill League, but they lost out to Saugus on a tiebreaker that counted up the total games won. Three times during Foothill League play, Hart lost a match 10-8.

Hart will lose nine seniors, including five starters, but the likes of LaBat, Miller, Dam and Michael Lange return next season.

“What comes to my mind is these guys fought all the way to the very end in every single match,” Mansfield said. “Except for Valencia, all the league matches we lost were very close.”
