Response to Castagna

Since I am one of those "faithful Democrats" John Castagna describes with such disdain in his letter to the editor on Nov. 7, I feel that I must respond to his diatribe.

Instead of expressing his views in a respectful and clear-thinking method, he resorts to spewing hateful rhetoric with derogatory insults and mean-spirited generalizations.

How does he propose to speak for all Democrats in such a wide-sweeping offensive and rancorous attack on a belief system?

Tolerance, respect and courteous regard are the qualities which I hold to my belief system and I speak for many members of the Democratic Party with whom I worked beside during this campaign. We are not pro-abortion.

We are for the right to choose, not the government's right or John Castagna's right to choose for us.

How does the conservative mantra of "too much government" in our lives fit into this stance of his? He has no idea what leads individuals to the choice of ending a pregnancy, and neither do I.

The difference between us is that I don't proclaim to be judge and jury for my neighbor.

I resent his unfounded and outrageous assumption that had Palin aborted her son she would be "sung praises by the Democrats." Such an antagonistic and ugly statement is repugnant.

I feel pity for anyone who is so blinded by anger and hostility that his/her thinking has become distorted enough to actually believe such garbage.

I am so thankful for the election of Barak Obama who promises to try his best to put an end to this type of partisan intolerance and divisiveness which is so evident in John's letter. It is a perfect example of what polarizes this nation.

Heed Obama's message. Express your personal views with civility and consideration rather than cruel labeling and malevolent attacks.

This behavior only sparks more of the same - promoting isolation instead of unity, alienation instead of brotherhood.
