Former Hart High and current University of Tennessee softball player Melissa Brown has been honored for her play on the field and her performance in the classroom.

Capital One announced its annual Academic All-District teams and the former Indian was one of four infielders selected to the NCAA Division I District 3 team.

The district includes teams from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The junior is majoring in political science and carries a 3.89 GPA.

On the diamond, Brown has 29 RBIs and a .291 batting averaging in 50 starts, predominately at first base.

The teams are selected each year by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and her placement on the district team means Brown is eligible for inclusion on the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be selected later this month.
