Sir Elton John has come to the rescue

Amazing - my childhood keyboard hero Elton John comes to the rescue and in a few simple words puts the whole issue of Proposition 8 into focus.

It is only a battle of semantics and finally someone prominent in the gay community said so.

Gays - all the wasted time and money, all your posturing and pointing, accusing fingers crying hate!

All you had to do was to understand that religion wants to live side by side with you.

No church campaigned against your equal rights through civil union and domestic partnership.

There's no way, through gay marriage, we're going to give you the overriding backing of the courts to unleash your campaign of hate against our First Amendment rights, to exercise our conscience in obeying the divine mandates we believe in without fear of being sued for discrimination by you.

There's no way we want gay sex brought out of the closet and put on a pedestal in our public schools.

The real issue? Take your fight, spend your money in getting domestic partnership rights and civil unions extended to gays all across the country.

The Mormon church and other churches have been unequivocal on their support of gays doing this.

Hate? No.

Everyone involved is fighting for their own rights.

Let's get on the same page with this, end the battle of semantics, end this pointless debate, all the bad feelings and the destructive waste of time fighting over the word marriage.

Elton John is right. Civil unions/domestic partnership rights is the way to go.
