West Ranch High grad signs on to play college ball

Cody Howard headed to McMurray University next season

Former West Ranch baseball player and current Los Angeles Mission College outfielder Cody Howard accepted a full scholarship to play baseball at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas next season.

The sophomore played right field for L.A. Mission this season, hitting .370 with 14 doubles and two home runs.

Howard had 16 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched in relief, as well.

McMurray University will join the NCAA Divsion II level for the first time this fall, after being accepted as a candidate for Division II membership in July 2011.

The War Hawks — who previously played at Division III — will become members of the Heartland Conference.

In their last season, the War Hawks went 21-22 and 12-9 in the American Southwest Conference.
