West Ranch put together a complete performance to come from behind and beat Canyon 6-4 on Thursday night at the William S. Hart PONY Complex.

The win guarantees the Wildcats at least a share of their first Foothill League title in program history given a two-game lead in the standings with two to play.

The key, said West Ranch head coach Bob Shults, was “The intensity this year. I’ve never seen this team play with the intensity that they’ve shown the past three or four weeks.”

Bailey Foster pitched all seven innings for West Ranch (18-3-1 overall, 7-1 Foothill League), giving up four runs off eight hits.
Other than a three-run, three-hit third inning by Canyon (17-9, 4-4), Foster locked down the Cowboys’ lineup.

Tiffany Dyson hit a two-RBI double and Paige Johnson knocked in a run with a double in the frame.

“They’ve shown that they have heart, they have character,” said Canyon head coach Dwain Whalen. “They’ve proved that they belong in this league.”

After Canyon’s big inning, West Ranch trailed 4-2, but rallied back with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth, including a frozen-rope solo home run hit by Haley Hineman.

Julia Lombardi went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Two of West Ranch’s runs were scored on squeeze bunts, once in the fourth and another in the sixth.

Canyon pitcher Hayley Bottino went six innings, allowing six earned runs off 13 hits.
