Western Manufactured Housing Communities Association members are collecting donations to assist recent wildfire victims with their immediate needs.

WMA Foundation officials expect a generous response after nearly 500 manufactured homes were destroyed in a single community during the recent Sayre Fire.

"We can only imagine the pain homeowners and community residents are living through," said Shiela Dey, WMA executive director. "Our members have a unique affection for the people who live there."

Last year, the WMA raised more than $100,000 for more than 60 affected residents of the 2007 San Diego fires with a large e-mail and letter campaign.

"We were very pleased with the overwhelming response from the community owners and service and industry members to our call for help," Dey said.

After receiving a list of those affected by the fire, the foundation immediately wrote checks to the victims.
Dey expects this year's contributions to meet or exceed those for 2007.
