Officials assess the damage and closed the road to traffic in both directions at the scene of a traffic collision on the northbound lanes of Bouquet Canyon Road, near Susan Beth Way, where communication cables fell on the roadway in Santa Clarita.

At least three motorists avoiding downed cables on Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus ended up in a three-vehicle collision today.

At about 11:40 a.m. today, cables identified as “communication cables” by a spokesman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department collapsed across Bouquet just north of Susan Beth Way.

The sagging cables slung over the southbound lanes were low enough to just barely allow a pickup to pass under but not high enough to allow for a city bus.

Cables collapsed completely in the northbound lanes and are were on the ground across three lanes when the collision occurred.

Two men and a woman were shaken up but not noticeably injured and were not transported to hospital.

The driver of a blue mini-van, who identified himself as Rob, said he slowed down.

“I noticed the wires were down so I slowed down but I did not know if it was safe to drive over them,” he said.
That’s when the collision occurred, he said.

Two charcoal-gray Toyota cars - one of a Camry and the other a Corolla- ended up positioned on the street behind the mini-van amid crash debris, including broken bumpers, which was scattered across all northbound lanes.

Deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responding to the crash stopped traffic in both directions.

At about noon, workers with Southern California Edison arrived in two utility trucks and began removing the downed severed cable, pulling it through a two-story high roadside pine tree.
