Today is the 20th anniversary of the South Central riots in Los Angeles.
There was a very devastating and frightening riot before the riots in South Central Los Angeles on Aug. 11, 1965.
Both riots that ensued were caused by traffic stops by police officers.
Remembering both of the riots, the Watts Riot was frightening, but the second was more devastating, causing a great divide in our city.
Police brutality was the cause of both incidences. Police caught on camera showing the beating of Rodney King was enough to incite unrest, but when the police officers were acquitted of said crime, all chaos and bedlam broke loose.
And so, Los Angeles had the South Central riots.
So, on the 20th anniversary of the riots today, reflecting on the chaos should be a good reminder to one and all to try and get along.
As Rodney King said: “Can’t we all get along?”
