It's the economy, Buck

This is a letter sent to Congressman Buck McKeon:

Dear Congressman McKeon:

As constituents who have voted for you in city and congressional elections, we are appalled at your apparent intractability reflected in your Nov. 19 newsletter as it relates to fixes for our economy.

We realize that generally your votes in Congress follow a strict party line, but you could have at least made a statement as it relates to bi-partisan co-operation in solving the present economic crisis. By bi-partisan we do not mean "take the Republican economic plan or else."

You fail to acknowledge the support of both parties in implementing the present administration's economic plan which so far has proven to be ineffective and beset by arrogance on the part of the management of the corporate beneficiaries of that plan.

You have some tough choices to make. Heretofore your votes have supported the Republican Party doggedly with assurance that the present president would sign most of the bills if passed. In the future you need to take a bi-partisan stance on proposing and supporting bills for economic recovery that are positive, innovative and that will be signed by the new president. If you do not then the communities and constituents you represent will be the losers.

Your newsletter complains about the corporate tax rate being too high, yet that hasn't deterred their management from lining their own pockets at the expense of the middle-class worker and investor.

We hope that you reconsider some of your positions. We are beginning to wonder what era you think you're living in. You represent a dynamic constituency of Republicans, Democrats and Independents that cannot afford to have a representative who focuses on politics and wastes their votes, rather exerting leadership in solving the disastrous economic crisis.
