The body of an elderly man believed to be from Arleta was found next to an overturned car Monday on a remote canyon road near Acton.

California Highway Patrol officers received word of a vehicle rollover on Escondido Canyon Road south of Highway 14 about 9 a.m. Monday, said CHP Sgt. John Lutz.

When they arrived they found the body of a man on the ground near a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The victim is believed to be an 87-year-old resident of Arleta in the San Fernando Valley, according to a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

Investigators with the Coroner’s office are still trying to contact the man’s next of kin.

Initial reports indicated the victim may have been ejected from the car, which had apparently rolled over in a single-vehicle crash.

One possibility being examined by the coroner is that the victim may have suffered a medical problem just before the rollover.

“It appeared he had been deceased for some time,” Lutz said.
