Youth hockey: Express 11- and 12-year-olds win state title

The Valencia Express Youth Peewee B Hockey Team won the a state championship on Sunday in San Jose.

The Express won the Pee Wee B division of the California Amateur Hockey Association's State Championship with a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Junior Ducks.

Valencia resident Mason Churpek scored the decisive goal in the second period.

The Express team is mostly made up of by 11- and 12-year-old players from local schools - Ashlyne and Michelle Behshid (Bridgeport Elementary), Luc Fox and Chris Franz (Helmers Elementary), Julian Agregan (La Mesa Junior High), Evan Wise (Mitchell Elementary), Mason Churpek (North Park Elementary), Peyton Hughes (Peachland Elementary), Christian Parks (Pinecrest), Jaiden Propersi (Rio Norte Junior High), and Jackson Vercellono (Santa Clarita Christian). They were also joined by Justin Werner of North Hollywood and William Sanchez from Lancaster.
