Refreshments provided. April 25: “Free (and Pain-Free) Osteoporosis Screening Utilizing the Feet,” presented by Facey Medical Group. Tese painless tests help determine bone density and if you are at higher risk for serious bone fractures which are leading cause of death in seniors 65 and older.
‘Spring Sing!’ Celebrate spring with the romantic music of yesteryear, featuring the talents of The Silvertone Choir, The Silver Belles, The Silver Beaux and the Memory Makers, 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Functional Fitness At 8:30 a.m. M-W-F, we’re movin’ and groovin’, steppin’ and sweatin’ to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett. We’re the new and improved “middle age” 50-plus active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness — moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization and spatial awareness for balance — all within one hour. If you’re not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you. Food for the Soul Put smiles on the faces and warm the hearts of homebound seniors when you become a home-delivered meal driver. Become a part of our volunteer team to ensure that no senior goes without a meal. Help is desperately needed for as little as two and one-half hours one day a week or even one day a month (Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.). Vehicles provided.
