The Hart High Regiment marches out onto the field at the Saugus High School homecoming game at the College of the Canyons football field last month.

And the Battle of the Bands' First Place award goes to...Hart Regiment, Hart High School's award-winning marching band and color guard.

The band's performance of its show "Solaris" scored an impressive 91.40 points, marking the first time this year a Division 4A band earned a score in excess of 90 in a Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association competition.

In addition, Hart's color guard was the tournament sweepstakes winner, earning 85.95 points, the highest score earned by the group this year. "I'm so proud of the students' hard work and dedication," said Anthony Bailey, band director. "We've enjoyed a great competition season and have our sights set on defending our state champion title at the SCSBOA competition next month."

Hart Regiment became tournament champion at the Marching Band Open Series competition Nov. 8, scoring 86.55 points. It swept the competition by earning high music, high visual and high general effect awards.

The group garnered a second-place award Nov. 15, with a score of 87.35, at the Marching Band Open Series championships at Tesoro High School in Las Flores.

The band will defend its state title Dec. 6 at the association championships at Pasadena City College.
In 2007, Hart Regiment won the state championship in its division of the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association for the sixth consecutive year, an accomplishment that remains unmatched by any other group.
