Hart High graduate and Oklahoma softball player Jessica Shults received one of the highest honors of her collegiate career this week, as the Sooners’ catcher was named one of 25 finalists for the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.

The award is voted on by coaches from 11 Division I conferences in 15 American Softball Association regions and media members from across the country.

Shults, a junior, is one of seven juniors on the list, and this season marks the first time she has been selected as one of the 25 finalists.

She was named to the final 50 in her two previous seasons in Norman.

This season has been stellar for the former Indian, as Shults boasts a .739 slugging percentage (fourth in the Big 12), has 10 home runs (tied for fourth in the Big 12) and is second in the conference with a .417 batting average.

She is also second in the Big 12 with 48 hits and third with 85 total bases.
