Madison Shipman, a Valencia High graduate and sophomore shortstop on the University of Tennessee softball team, was named the Southeastern Conference's player of the week for the week of April 2 to April 8.
Shipman posted four home runs during that time frame, bringing her season total to eight, and had 13 RBIs and a triple.
Shipman reached base safely in each of her team’s five games, as Tennessee swept Auburn in a three-game series for the first time in program history, according to the SEC.
Shipman hit four home runs in the series — including her first career two-home run game in a 6-2 victory on Sunday over Auburn.
Her stellar week put Shipman into first on the SEC’s season leaders list for RBIs, hits and total bases accumulated during league contests, with 26 RBIs, 22 hits and 42 total bases.
