Foothill League track and field: Canyon sees mirror images

Cowboys girls and boys win by identical scores

The Canyon boys and girls track and field teams both beat West Ranch 82-54 on Tuesday at West Ranch High School.

Canyon’s Joel Estrada won the 800-meter race in a meet-record 1 minute, 58.7 seconds, and he also won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches. Zach Wims also set a meet record in the 3,200 with a time of 10:01 flat, and he added a victory in the 1,600 in 4:35.8.

West Ranch’s Nick Bultman set meet records with marks of 51-3 in the shot put and 153-2 in the discus. Wildcats sprinter Chu Oguejiofor won the 400 with a meet-record time of 49.9 seconds, and the 4x400 team of Eugene Generoso, Joey Nazario, Ashton Garcia and Joseph Ludwig set a meet record with a time of 3:30.1.

For Canyon, Jeremy Kimmer won the long jump (18-2 1/2) and the triple jump (39-7), while Drew Wolitarsky won the 100 in 11.2 seconds. Brenden Stach swept the hurdles with times of 15 seconds in the 110 hurdles and 40.8 seconds in the 300 hurdles, and Robert Wolfe cleared 14 feet to win the pole vault.

On the girls side, Tiffini Stone set a new meet and school record in the triple jump at 37-6 1/2, and she also won the long jump at 17-2.

Mari Kneisel tied the meet record in the high jump by clearing 4-10, and Taylor Thomas won the 100 hurdles in 15.7 seconds. Also for Canyon, Jasmine Sales won the 300 hurdles in 51.2 seconds, Shalyn Mabritto won the 3,200 in 11:48 and Taylor Gaines won the shot put at 32-11.

West Ranch’s Ashley Welker set two meet records, winning the 400 in 57.9 seconds and the 800 in 2:16. Her younger sister, Taylor, won the 1,600 in 5:22, while Lauren Ross won the 100 in 12.6 seconds and Xiomara Perkins won the 200 in 26.3 seconds.
