A high-speed chase on Interstate 5 in Valencia sent a CHP car tumbling and an officer to the hospital with minor injuries Monday night, a CHP official said.

An officer in a California Highway Patrol car traveling at a high rate of speed lost control on the northbound I-5 Valencia Boulevard off ramp at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Officer Michelle Esposito said.

The officer, whose name is withheld pending an investigation, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment and later released, she said.

"The CHP officer was trying to assist in a stop on the southbound lanes," Esposito said.

The officer was exiting the northbound side of the I-5 to cross the overpass and re-enter the freeway on the southbound side to help in an active pursuit, she said.

The CHP will conduct a thorough investigation into the crash, Esposito said.
