The Santa Clarita Emergency Winter Shelter will open on schedule Dec. 1, according to shelter officials.

The Emergency Winter Shelter opens for about 105 days every year, giving the local homeless population access to meals, beds, bathrooms and showers. Clients have access to case managers who aid them in finding jobs, housing and other resources.

The Dec. 1 opening will be the first on-time opening for the shelter in nearly a decade, said Andy Pattantyus, vice president of the Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation, the nonprofit organization that operates the shelter.

The shelter is located at 26201 Golden Valley Road, south of Centre Pointe.
