College of the Canyons’ 2012 football schedule has been released by the Southern California Football Association.

The Cougars, who will compete in the restructured National Division, Northern Conference, are scheduled to begin the season by hosting Golden West at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.

COC will play non-conference games the following two weekends, first hosting Saddleback at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8, and then traveling to face Desert at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 in the team’s first road game.

The Cougars kick off conference play on Sept. 22, hosting Pasadena at 7 p.m. They play conference opponents in six of their last seven games, with a bye the week of Oct. 20.

Canyons finished 4-6 this past season, and the program was a pedestrian 10-11 in two years under the California Community College Athletic Association’s three-tier format for Southern California football.

This season, the format will switch to two tiers, redistributing the region’s 37 community college football teams. COC is still in the highest level of competition.
