It's "The Polar Express" meets Dr. Seuss on Dec. 6 as the SCV Education Foundation and the city of Santa Clarita team up for a holiday parade and literacy festival in Old Town Newhall.

The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the annual Old Town Newhall Children's Holiday parade. Youngsters are invited to join in the parade, which winds along Main Street and ends at William S. Hart Park.

There the Literacy and Arts Festival continues until 4 p.m., featuring readings, musical performances and other entertainment.

Authors will be on hand to read selections from their books, musicians will perform and share their experiences and children will be invited to join in many interactive stories and craft-making events.

Besides all that, 25 tons of snow will be delivered to the park.

Free parking is available at the Newhall Community Center, 22421 Market Street.

For more information, call the city's Arts and Events office at (661) 286-4018 or visit www.santa-clarita.com.
