An Award of Merit was granted to the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corp., or SCVEDC, last month for an Economic Development Guide magazine it recently produced.

The California Association for Local Economic Development, or CALED, honored the SCVEDC for a publication they developed for use as a business-attraction tool.

The merit award was announced at CALED’s 32nd annual conference in Sacramento on March 21. The Awards of Excellence program recognizes statewide projects and programs that have made contributions to the field of economic development.

The guide was created in collaboration with The Signal, which provided printing and formatting services for the SCVEDC, said Stacie House, marketing and business retention manager.

“We are very excited about our recognition by CALED,” said Don Fleming, co-chairman for SCVEDC. “The award offers validation (for) that work we are doing here in the Santa Clarita Valley, and the information we are providing to prospective companies is superior.”

The guide has been a primary resource for work the SCVEDC has been doing to attract businesses to the region. It contains a wealth of information about the Santa Clarita Valley both in lifestyle and business opportunities, as well as advantages to doing business in the region, House said.

“Our work has been noticed and stands above some of California’s most prolific regions. That is very exciting for us,”   Fleming said.

The agency that gave the merit award to the SCVEDC for the guide, CALED, provides resources to economic development agencies within the state. Serving as an information hub to members, CALED provides information and services related to business attraction and retention, employee training, legislation and lobbying and more.
