Five local teams appear in CIF spring polls

Five local teams appear in the latest CIF-Southern Section spring sports polls.

West Ranch is the only Foothill League baseball team that appears in the rankings, checking in at No. 10 in Division I. The Wildcats (9-2-1) lost to Saugus last Wednesday before beating Rocklin on Saturday.

Santa Clarita Christian (8-2) moved up to No. 3 in Division VII, continuing the Cardinals’ roller coaster ride in the rankings. They were ranked No. 1 earlier in the season before dropping to No. 10 two weeks ago. Last week, they beat Desert High and St. Monica Academy.

In softball, Valencia (11-4) is listed in the “others” section of Division I, having routed El Modena 9-1 in its only game last week.

Valencia is No. 4 in Division II in both boys volleyball and boys tennis. The boys volleyball team is 4-4 and is off to a 3-0 start in Foothill League play, while the boys tennis team is 9-3 and 4-0 to start the Foothill League season.

There will be no poll next week due to the CIF-Southern Section office being closed. The polls will resume on April 16.
