Adam Lee of Siduri Winery in Santa Rosa said he welcomed the chance to assist the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley when asked by Boys & Girls Club Foundation member Carl Kanowsky.

“The more I learned about the Boys & Girls Club and what they do, the more I thought it was important for me to come down here and help,” Lee said.

“My wife, Dianne, and I have three children of our own.”

Nearly 70 people attended the event held on the patio of Salt Creek Grille to support the Boys & Girls Club. The wine tasting and food pairing event was hosted by Carl and Terry Kanowsky.

Carl Kanowsky has been on the board of the Boys & Girls Club for nearly 18 years.

“Our boys, who are now grown, went to the club,” said Carl Kanowsky. “It is near and dear to Terry’s and my heart.”

Jim Ventress, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club of SCV, said fundraisers, such as the wine tasting, are important to keeping the same level of service available to SCV families.

“We appreciate all the people who have showed up to support the club,” and the Kanowsky’s hard work to bring us this fundraiser,” Ventress said. “It’s a tough economy, but we’re keeping the doors open.”

The Boys & Girls Club of SCV serves almost 2,500 children with a staff of 27. The club previously had a staff of 42.

The evening featured the Novy Willamette Valley Blanc de Pinot Noir pairs with a Salmon Mousse Napoleon, the Siduri Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir paired with a demitasse of roasted fennel and white bean dip, the Siduri Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir paired with a Moroccan chicken skewer with herb sauce, the Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir Pinot Meunier paired with Vol au Vent with mushroom ragout and the Novy Rosella’s Vineyard Syrah paired with Beef Stroganoff ravioli.

The grand finish to the meal was a dessert course of chocolates and Novy “Oley” dessert wine.

The food pairing was created by Salt Creek Grille Catering chef Tamra Levine.

An auction of items donated by Lee included more than a dozen bottles of Novy and Siduri wine, which earned the club $5,300 when Lee doubled the item so two bidders could each take home the package.

A weekend in Sonoma Valley fetched $1,700.

Also earning the club $1,700 were tickets to see Smokey Robinson at the Hollywood Bowl.

Lee donated the wine for the event and Salt Creek Grille donated the food, said Kanowsky.
