The Trinity Knights debate team recently competed in the California State Qualifier. Trinity Classical Academy, with its first year debaters, went up against some of the top schools in their league.
Trinity was able to advance their team of ninth-graders Hannah Hobelman and Kayla Perry to the competition.
They did not qualify for the state tournament this year, but the composure these girls kept as they faced a tough opponent assures us that next year’s competition will show much improvement. In addition to this team, Trinity sent two other teams: Julia Howell and Taylor Totten, and Allie Klein and Sophia LaFrance.
The teams argued both sides of the topic “Birthright citizenship should be abolished in the United States.”
Preparing for such a controversial topic was not easy, but the girls were dedicated and showed a level of maturity that is worthy of being commended.
The Trinity debate team is excited for next year’s competition as they continue to grow as young adults living their faith, standing by their beliefs as they work hard for success.
