The Santa Clarita Master Chorale and The Master's College Collegiate Singers will present a Brahms and Barber concert March 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. The "German Requiem," which is Brahms' best known composition for choir, will be a highlight. (Artistic Director Allan Robert Petker will present a pre-concert lecture at 2:30 p.m.)

The concert will feature several selections from 20th century American composer Samuel Barber. Desirée Hassler will take the spotlight in two solo pieces with orchestra, "Sure on this Shining Night" and "Nocturne," with the Master Chorale presenting "Agnus Dei." If you don't recognize the name, you will almost have certainly heard this melancholy music somewhere: It's Barber's "Adagio for Strings," composed in 1936.

The Chorale will be presenting the vocal version of this haunting music, which is set with the words of the somber "Lamb of God" passage from the traditional Latin mass.

Tickets to the concert are $26, $20 or $14 regular admission and $21, $15 or $10 for seniors, students and children.
The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia, CA 91355. For more information or tickets visit the Chorale's website at www.scmasterchorale.org or call (661) 362-5304.
