Castaic residents saw the faces of their newly elected local representatives Wednesday when the results of the Nov. 8 town council election were announced.

New council members will be sworn in at the Jan. 21 council meeting.

Bob Lewis and John Kunak each served on the Castaic Area Town Council for eight years, the maximum time allowed.

Taking over for Lewis in Region 4 is Flo Lawrence, who has been "quite active" in locating a site for the much-needed high school for Castaic.

Lori Bennett moves into the Region 1 spot vacated by Kunak which includes the areas of Live Oak, North Bluffs, Hasley Hills and Hillcrest Park.

She joins Renee Sabol in Region 1.

Richard Hood won a seat representing Val Verde in Region 2 and shares that region with Vanessa Brookman.

Election winner Robert Kelly joins Steve Teeman as council member representing Hasley, Sloan and
Romero Canyons in Region 3.

Region 4 encompasses a wide area that includes Meadowwood, Bravo, Encore, Lake Hills Mobile Estates, Church, Cherry, Ferguson and the Castaic area east of Interstate 5 and south of Lake Hughes Road.

Lawrence shares that region with Jeff Preach.

Region 5 will see two men named Scott at the helm.

On election night, Scott A. Wardle won a seat on the council, joining Scott Moon in Region 5.

The region takes in the Double C Ranch, Hidden Lake, Stonegate, Northlake, Paradise Ranch and the Castaic area east of I-5 and north of Lake Hughes Road.

The debate over annexation to the city of Santa Clarita is the single most significant challenge facing the council's newly elected members, the council's outgoing treasurer said.

"We don't want to see Castaic cut up into pieces," said Bob Lewis, who has served two consecutive terms as council member for Region 4.

"If Santa Clarita wants to annex Castaic, they cannot cherry-pick which areas they want," he said.

In March, the city of Santa Clarita submitted a zoning application seeking permission to amend its "sphere of influence" and allow it to annex an area of Valencia Commerce Center and Hasley Hills.

Lewis said Friday residents and council members are unified about keeping Castaic intact.

"We don't think Santa Clarita hears it loud and clear," he said.
