A Democratic Voices writer endorses Bob Kellar for City Council? Lori Rivas in “A call for a participatory government,” March 13, documents how the council routinely ignores the majority of citizen-speakers.
She cites four instances in which its members voted 4-1 to take actions opposed by an overwhelming number of citizen-speakers. At one meeting, there were hundreds of emails, comment cards and a petition with 1,200 signatures opposing the action to be taken. The vote was 4-1, in favor of what the citizens overwhelmingly opposed.
Laurie Ender recently listed her “yes” vote as a major achievement. The only council member in four meetings who listened to what the people wanted, and then voted for them? Right: Kellar.
So, follow your Democratic Voices and vote for TimBen Boydston and Kellar. Goodbye to Laurie Ender, whose proud achievement was to vote for what you didn’t want.
