The multiple award-winning masterpiece "Journey's End" opens at the Repertory East Playhouse in Newhall tonight. Based on the author R.C Sherriff's own experience in the trenches of WW I, this gripping tale celebrates humor and courage, engaging audiences with a compelling insight into how, in the face of adversity, the human spirit will always triumph.

Set in St. Quentin in 1917, 18-year-old 2nd Lieutenant Raleigh is the new arrival in the company commanded by his former schoolboy friend, Captain Stanhope. There's only three years between them, but a lifetime of experience separates the pair as Raleigh discovers that the man in army greens is much changed from the boy he left behind in cricketing whites.

Inspired by the play, and funded by a grant from the city of Santa Clarita, the REP will create and host a Veterans Memorial and Appreciation Museum. The VMA Museum will be focused around an educational center that will celebrate and show recognition to Santa Clarita's veterans of foreign wars.

This exhibit, featuring artwork, artifacts and images, along with a series of discussions to include guest speakers from the local community, will help educate audiences about local veterans and their experiences serving in the U.S. armed forces.

Join the REP tonight, Friday March 16, for the Opening Night Gala, with a complimentary wine and cheese reception sponsored by RSVP Catering. The reception begins at 7 p.m. and the performance at 8 p.m.

"Journey's End" will run through April 14. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $17 for students and seniors. Tickets for all military veterans and active military are $12. Group rates are available. There is no show on Sunday, April 8.

Advance reservations are highly recommended. For tickets, purchase online at www.repeastplayhouse.org or call (661) 288-0000.

Located at 24266 Main Street in the heart of Old Town Newhall, the REP is home to the Hydeaway Lounge, featuring full-service cocktails. Exclusively at the REP, the Hydeaway Lounge is open one hour before each performance. It's warm, inviting atmosphere is the perfect place to have a cocktail and mingle with other patrons. The REP's year-long season features five Main Stage productions and two 81 Series studio productions.
