CIF-SS unveils proposal for 2012-2014 playoff alignment

The CIF-Southern Section has released its proposed playoff groupings for the 2012-2014 seasons, and the road to a Northern Division title in football may be getting easier for Foothill League schools.

Under the proposal, which member schools have until March 23 to appeal, the Marmonte League would be moved out of the Northern Division and into the Pac 5, the Southern Section’s top division in football.

Replacing the Marmonte League in the Northern Division would be the Pac-7, formerly of the Western Division.

The proposed movement, which the CIF-SS announced earlier today, mirrors one of the proposals that Foothill League secretary Dody Garcia confirmed the league had submitted in January.

At the time, Hart head coach Mike Herrington said the league wanted the realignment to occur for the sake of “competitive equity.”

Marmonte League teams have won each of the past three Northern Division championships with Westlake winning this season and in 2009 and Oaks Christian winning in 2010.

Then a member of the Channel League and now in the Marmonte League, the St. Bonaventure Seraphs won in 2007 and 2008.

The Playoff Groupings Appeals Committee will meet on March 27 to hear the concerns of particular leagues.
Individual schools cannot appeal the decision.
