The city of Santa Clarita hosts a "Weekend of Wonderland Fun" in downtown Newhall on Dec. 5 and 6.

The "Paint the Town" event takes place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 5. The event brings together local residents to participate in the "Holiday Window Painting Contest," which transforms the front windows of downtown Newhall businesses into works of art.

The annual "Old Town Newhall Children's Holiday Parade" begins at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 6. Participants will walk down Main Street, view the "Paint the Town" submissions and end at William S. Hart Park.

All local children are invited to participate and dress up in the parade. For more information, visit www.santa-clarita.com/holidayparade.

The "Literacy and Arts Festival" immediately follows the Holiday Parade from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The festival features creative events and activities that teach kids the importance of literacy.

Authors will also be in attendance to read their books.

The festival will include 25 tons of snow for kids to play in, interactive storytelling time, numerous craft areas and the opportunity for kids to take their pictures with Santa Claus.

A book drive held by the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation is also scheduled.

Free parking is available at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street.

For more information, call the city's Arts and Events office at (661) 286-4018 or visit www.santa-clarita.com.
