I read your Feb. 26 editorial, “Station switch shouldn’t be only move,” and had to put my two cents in.
Why all the infighting about moving the Sheriff’s Station? It seems that the simplest solution is right before your eyes. The courts are already moving out, and the library will no longer be needed because of the huge new mega library in Newhall. So, demolish all the existing facilities and construct a new multi-level, state-of-the-art sheriff’s facility on the same land it now occupies.
Also, a multistory parking level structure could be added on the rear parking lot if needed. Everyone wins, especially the city, and this is the most convenient for everyone. No guarantees what, if anything, would be built on the site if the buildings are sold. Come on, City Council, think about it and save the civic center right where it is. We all benefit and lord knows there is already enough empty building space in the area to temporarily house the Sheriff’s Station during construction. The old Newhall Land Dean Witter Building right behind the station is empty and available.
Keep our sheriff/police facility here in the city, where it belongs.
