Valencia High graduate Max Homa was honored Thursday by the Pac-12 Conference for his play in February.

The University of California, Berkeley golfer was named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month.

Homa is the first Cal golfer to receive the honor since Eric Mina in April of 2010.

Homa, in his junior season, finished second individually at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate from Feb. 15-17 and helped lead Cal to the team title at the event.

Homa shot a seven-under par 209 in the tournament and tied for lowest score with his opening-round 66.

From Feb. 27-28 Homa held the top spot for Cal in the Del Walker Match Play Championship.

In the event, Homa defeated Eugene Wong of Oregon, who is currently ranked No. 2 by Golfstat and No. 3 by Golfweek.

He also defeated defending Pac-10 individual medalist Alex Moore of Oregon State as Cal finished third at the event.

“It feels pretty amazing and kind of surreal to win this honor, especially in this conference with so many good players,” Homa said in a news release. “I’m extremely honored and proud, and thankful for the coaches and my teammates that helped make this accomplishment happen.”
