Ramifications of Proposition 8

To everyone who voted "yes" on Proposition 8: Please take off your blinders and open your eyes to what you have just passed.

I know there have been many arguments on why same-sex marriages should not be legal, and I would like to let you know how wrong this law is.

First of all, we have allowed our Constitution to be changed; you have taken away the rights of fellow human beings, and I'm afraid of what might come next.

I have this crazy idea: We should all take responsibility for raising our children. You should instill your views on what is right and wrong in your children. Don't rely on the school to do the job you should be doing.

There is no way to protect your children from knowing that there are gays and lesbians in this world; they will find out with or without this law passed. So don't pretend you are protecting your children from some evil. All you are doing is teaching them to treat people who they view different unfairly.

If you decide it's something you completely want to keep your children from, there are perfectly good private schools that are willing to brainwash your kids for the right price.

If you can't afford it, please remember that they are also taught about evolution, not creation, and sex, not abstinence.

So maybe you should call those Proposition 8 people and try to get those banned, too.

How about we also ban cheating, lying, drinking, gambling and smoking, because the last time I checked they were also on the list of "wrong things" in the Bible.

Let's stop picking and choosing what we want to take from the Bible, and if you want to be so righteous please remember that God loves everyone, is all-forgiving and it's God's job to pass judgment, not yours.

Victory was not ours in this election, but the struggle for equality is not over.
