Anti-intellectualism is rampant

It is laughable that the former teacher who obviously continues to support Bush and his failed policies would publicly flaunt his continued support after a landslide election in which his vision of America lost.

Calling Obama a "socialist" illustrates what is called the dumbing of America by scientists and psychologists who are studying this phenomenon, calling it virulent mixture of anti-intellectualism, anti-rationalism and low expectations.

Illustrated by the base support of WMDs, Sarah Palin, calling Obama a Muslim at the same time calling him out for Rev. Wright and the swift-boating of John Kerry.

Anti-intellectualism in which public ignorance contributes is a grave national problem allowing the war criminal Bush to trample the Constitution, science, vocabulary and art, while most of the populace was seduced by cheap money.

That leads us to an important factor behind the new American dumbness: not lack of knowledge per se but arrogance about that lack of knowledge, calling people with a good vocabulary or knowledge of current events an elitist.

It is past time for a serious national discussion about whether, as a nation, we truly value intellect and rationality.
