The Saugus High girls cross country program keeps reeling off state championships.

It also keeps reeling off college runners.

Senior Jenay Jauregui is the latest to commit, signing with San Jose State last week on a full athletic scholarship.

Jauregui has been a scoring runner on Saugus’ last two state championship teams, and she was the Foothill League runner-up this past season. She’s the younger sister of former Saugus stars Brianna and Brandon Jauregui, who will be running with her at San Jose State starting this year.

San Jose State’s women’s cross country team finished sixth out of eight teams this past season in the Western Athletic Conference and won one meet, the season-opening Notre Dame Invitational in Belmont. Three runners ran as individuals at the NCAA West Regional Championship.

The Spartans lose eight runners to graduation, so Jauregui will be part of a young contingent looking to return the team to the top of the WAC.

Jauregui joins a lengthy list of former Centurions running cross country at NCAA Division I schools, including Stephanie Bulder (Arizona), Amber Murakami (UCLA), Kaylin Mahoney (Columbia), Danielle Hernando (DePaul), Merissa Kado (UCLA), Alex Hampton (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) and Annie Randall (Long Beach State).

Jauregui is one of four class of 2012 Saugus runners to sign with a college, following Karis Frankian (The Master’s College) and sisters Jordan McCall (Westmont College) and Jessica McCall (San Diego State).
