Why the heck hasn’t anybody told me? I was born this month, and I didn’t know there is an extra dang day. Geez!

I’m going to sit on my lazy butt on that day and not do anything.

An extra day of the lovely mushy-wushy Valentine’s Day month? No, thank you.

Like, why can’t they just say we cancel the extra day? We did make the months, so why not just say no?

Make it a holiday, like “Sit On Your Butt and Do Nothing Day.”

But I just found out she went “The subject is ‘Why is there an extra day,’” and I am like, “What the heck, an extra day?” So, hope I get a chance to do nothing all that day.

There is an extra day in February because it is leap year. It happens very four years.

My uncle was born on Feb. 29. So, right now he is 7 or 8 years old.

Sometimes, he comes to celebrate and we party till midnight.

Sometimes, we go to eat at La Sirenita. In the restaurant, there is really loud music.

Every four years there is an extra day in February. This is Feb. 29.

This day is called leap year.

If you were born on leap year, you would still grow up, but you wouldn’t officially turn 1 until four years pass by.

For leap year, I’m celebrating my dog Kayla’s 91st birthday.

I know Kayla is turning 91 because one human year is equal to seven dog years. I did the math on a sheet of paper: 13 times 7 equals 91.

My mom and I are going to go online to find out how to make a little cake that only Kayla can eat. I can’t wait.

I have an orthodontist appointment at 4:30, and after that, it’s time to celebrate!

The reason there is an extra day this year is because every four years is leap day. That means that every four years, there is an extra day. I am not very interested in this because I don’t want there to be any more days than there really is supposed to me.

Leap year only comes every four years. This is when the calendar turns back to normal and gets an extra day.

For that extra day, me and my dad might go to Magic Mountain, or go somewhere else, like Disneyland.

It doesn’t really matter where we are, as long as I’m with my dad.

I think there is an extra day because of leap year. Leap year is when your birthday is on Feb. 29. If a baby is born, he or she will have to wait four years till they turn 1. I wonder what I will do on that extra day.

I might study, read or play my DSi. I think that it will be our day off, or maybe not.

I like days off. I just hope we get one on the 29th, which is the extra day in February.

I think leap year is when the calendar gets back on track so it will work correctly.

I am going to spend my leap year partying, since it is close to my birthday.

My birthday is Feb. 21, and my birthday party is Feb. 25, and that is what I am going to do on leap year.

My niece is going to come over to my house to go on my trampoline. She loves it, but I can’t get off until she wants to get off.

On the extra day, I am going to try to get my scrapbooks because they are only half-full, and my brother put them up on a shelf that is too high for me to reach.

I am going to try to go on Facebook for most of the day.

I am also going to try and finish my two books, called “May Bird Among the Stars” and “Oggie Cooder.”

The reason there is an extra day this year is because it is leap day, which means we have 366 days.

On the 366th day, I am going to stay in and play video games, hang out with friends, draw and not read.

Or, maybe go out to dinner and stay up playing video games.

Why is there going to be an extra day? Because it is four years — leap year!

What I’m going to do is play “Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies Der Reise,” and I’m also going to play “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” survival, multiplayer, campaign and special ops. I think there is an extra day because they want us to have a good time. I’m joking. I’m going to watch “Family Guy.”

If you don’t know what leap year is, it’s the day on Feb. 29, and only comes every four years.

I’m excited because I’ve been waiting four years.

Did you listen? Four years!

I think they made an extra day to make life interesting, or maybe it’s about history.

I can’t wait till leap day.

Hailee Santiago

Well, because this year is leap year, and when someone is born on leap year their birthday will be four years later.

If someone’s birthday is on a different day, they can celebrate their birthday every year.

None of my family members are born on that day.

That’s mostly it. You get to live longer, but that’s not the point.

Angel Cruz

Why is there an extra day? Because it is leap year!

I can’t believe it. Every four years is leap year!

I wonder what I’m going to do.

I think I’m going to my mom’s house.

I want to get Xbox Live for my ... wait for it ... just a little bit longer ... Xbox 360!

The first game I’m going to play is “Modern Warfare 3. “

Afterward, I’m going to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops.”

I want to get Microsoft Points so I can buy the moon.

I can play “Call of Duty: World at War — Zombies.”

Why is there an extra day, people? Because every fourth year, there is a leap year.

Man, man...!

What I’m going to do is sit down, watch my dad play “Fallout: New Vegas,” and watch TV, and watch my dad play the Wii. The game is “Super Mario.” Be-pe be pe-de de, de.

And also, you know, have breakfast, lunch and dinner, and sit on the couch and have my after-lunch snack.

I want to know if it’s going to rain that day.

I’m probably going to watch “Godzilla.” It’s this huge lizard, very huge.

This year is leap year, so we get an extra day.

I don’t know what I am going to do, but I might go to my aunt’s house to see my new cousin.

He was born in December, but they live in Mexico so we haven’t seen him.

I can’t wait to see him because I like babies, and I want to see my older cousin, Jesus, because we play Xbox.

I don’t know why there is an extra day this year. But I know I’ll put it to some good use.

I have no idea what I’ll do, but I guess I’ll just play some video games.

The video games I’ll play are “Gears of War 3,” “CastleMiner Z,” “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” and “Fallout: New Vegas.”

Matthew David Ruiz

Grade 5

There is an extra day this year because of leap year.

What am I going to do, you ask?

Well, I want to have a barbecue, but I don’t know if my dad will let us.

I also want to hang out with my friends and cousins. That would be really fun.

Also, maybe kick back and relax and watch some TV and play video games.

That’s what I want to do for the extra day of the year.

Nonnie Howard

Grade 5

Live Oak Elementary School

There is an extra day this year because it’s been four years since last time.

I am going to spend the day playing video games and watching TV.

It is going to be fun. I’m going to play and hang out with my brother. We’re going to have a blast.

Thanks for reading my letter.

There’s an extra day in this month, February, because of leap day. I don’t know what I’m going to do on leap day. If some babies are born on leap day, then their birthday is every four years. I don’t really know why we have leap day every four years.

Eusebio Morales

Grade 5

On the extra day, I am going to play video games, and then I will watch TV, and then I will go ourside, and then I’ll go to the park, and then go to my friend’s house and play “Call of Duty: Black Ops” on Xbox Live.

The reason we have an extra day this year is because it is a leap year. Leap year is the time when every four years we have an extra day in February. I really do not notice it because I do not keep track of the days in February, even though my birthday is in February. My birthday is in five days.

Crystal Orozco

Grade 5

The reason there is an extra year is because of leap year. Leap year happens every four years!

In that case, if you were born Feb. 29 in 2004, in 2008 you would be 2 years old.

I think I might celebrate it by doing homework, since it’s on a Wednesday.

I kind of wish leap year was on a weekend so I don’t have to go to school.

Now in 2012, it will be another leap year.

Joshua Richard

Grade 5

Live Oak Elementary School

There is an extra day because it is leap year. Leap year is every four years.

On the 29th of February, I usually hang out with friends, go to the skate park and ride bikes with friends at dirt jumps.

We also grab our Ultra Pro scooters and ride around town grinding, triple tailwhipping and doing lots of tricks. I sometimes just sleep and play video games.

But I see my family a lot and hang out with them.

I also go snowboarding sometimes, too.

With the extra day, there are 366 days in the year.

Emma McCann

Grade 5

Live Oak Elementary School

There is an extra day this month because it’s a leap year! Instead of it being 28 days, there’s 29 days. I’m going to be going to school that day, but I’m still going to have fun at home and at school.

I think it’s really fun that there’s an extra day this month. Every four years, the leap year happens. A lot of people are born on a leap year. If you are, then you would have a birthday every four years!

Since the leap year is on a Wednesday, that’s a shortened day for our school. That’s why there’s an extra day this year. Enjoy your leap year!

Sonia Flores

Grade 5

Live Oak Elementary School

Why is there an extra day in the year? Because it is leap year!

One extra day in the year. Leap year happens only once in four years!

What I want to do is relax and hang out with my friends.

I really like the extra day because it is on a Wednesday, and that’s a shortened day for Live Oak.

What I will do for leap day is nothing.

Christopher Kariuki

Grade 5

Live Oak Elementary School

We all know that every four years there is an 29th day in February.

For example, if you were born on Feb. 29, 2000, your first birthday would be in 2004, then the next one on 2008, then 2012, 2016, etc.

We call that a leap year, because in a usual year there are 365.25 days in a year.

It also means an extra day for the month of love, Black History Month and the disgusting chocolate.
